Cycling over the past 10 years has become an important part in my life. Because of this, I am healthier than I would have been if I had just surrendered to my disability. I hope more families discover the joy of riding together in a slower paced lifestyle than the modern world has thrust onto us all. By all means, even if you don't ride, please, please share the roads safely with those who do ride.

Here is a great place to keep up with professional bike racing around the world brought to us by Versus CYCLYSM SCHEDULE

Hotter 'N Hell 100

Hotter'N Hell Hundred voted "Best in Texas"! Competitor Texas Magazine and ClifBar sponsor Best in Texas voting for a variety of Fitness categories. For the fourth year running bicycling enthusiasts in Texas have shown their appreciation for our rest stops, volunteers and community by judging Hotter'N Hell Hundred to be the Best in Texas. We recognize that every volunteer supporting other rides in Texas put their hearts into being the best they can be which makes us all the more proud of this award.

On the following pages my goal has been to introduce both new and old ham operators to some of the most popular QRP projects, web sites and contest. Also there is information from the ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League) and news about our ham friends around the world, some of who have paid the ultimate price for their love of country and service to their fellow mankind. I hope after you have checked out the site you have learned a bit about who ham operators are, what they do and encourage you to joining us if you are not a ham already.

Eddie and I get ready for the wind and hills of Collin County.

Denton turkey Roll                                                                                                                Everything is Turkey in Texas in November :).   The weather was as predicted, picture perfect at the START,it was 54F and climbed to a pleasant 70 F at the FINISH abt noon, with light winds and partly cloudy skies!!   Could or would you want it any other way...naww. I was successful on my plan for "the easy over once thank you" 35 miles ride which headed out north on Sherman Drive, out of the Denton County Fair Grounds located at Carroll and University Drive. The hills in this part of the ride out to Lake Ray Roberts will give you a good cardio I guarantee you. Then you take in the view of the Lake as you head back southwest across the dam into a mild wind with the lake on your right. The dam road is plenty wide on the edges so there's no need to worry about cars and trucks, giving you time to enjoy the view. You soon see the the turn back for the 35 and go ahead and enjoy the rest stop and notice your buns are telling you that you indeed have been keeping up with the DFers :). One more rest stop 7 miles out from the finish is in a great location, the cookies and gatoraide fuel you up for the remaining killer hills on Sherman Drive which take you back to the Fair Grounds in Denton. It's great if you can find a DF to draft behind at this point to break the wind you are riding into. It's not a bad wind but after nearly 35 miles the effect feels like it is a lot worse :) on several of the 20% elevated long climbs.     Riders and DentonCounty Fair grounds

Riders being fed at the finish

All in all, great rest stops, just enough good hills to give you a great work out and some good scenery, combined with average to good road surface add up to a pleasant ride. Even the autos were polite to the riders all along the route! Not once did I ever feel threatened by the passing cars even when we rode on the side of traffic going 70mph for a short stretch. 3 stars for this ride.
Special thanks for the great SAG support by the local radio club W5NGU.
